The Sidney Driscoll Neuroscience Foundation (SDNF) is a Preston based charity founded by a bequest from of Mr Sidney Driscoll, who was treated in Preston for a brain tumour. The Trustees generously support a range of neuroscience clinical and research projects in the locality including the BTNW Bank and its technical curator.


 

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals
The Lancashire Teaching Hospitals hosts the CNS Research Tissue Bank and provides overarching R&D sponsorship for its activities as well as Human Tissue Act licensing. The Trust has an active and supportive R&D dept. which encourages tissue banking as well as other clinical trial and research activities. 


 

The Rosemere Cancer Foundation (RCF) is a registered Charity based at the Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Cancer Centre who support a range of cancer based clinical and research projects in the locality. The RCF has generously provided funding to establish the tissue culture research laboratory in the hospital which allows donated tissues to be appropriately prepared for research purposes. It has also supported various research projects undertaken by local BTNW collaborators.


 

The Society of British Neurological Surgeons (SBNS) is the UK body representing the neurosurgical community in all aspects of neurosurgical training and practice.


 

 

The British Neuro-Oncology Society (BNOS) is the UK national body representing all aspects of brain tumour research and care – molecular studies, epidemiology, neurosurgery, neurology, nursing and psychology. Its annual meeting is usually held in June at various institutions throughout the UK (see their Conference page). Most BTNW members are also members of BNOS.


 

The British Neuropathological Society (BNS) is the national body representing UK clinical neuropathologists and experimental neuroscientists. All neuropathologists are involved in diagnosing brain tumours as part of their NHS work and some have a special interest in neuro-oncology and have a variety of ongoing research projects. The annual meeting is held in January at the Institute of Child Health, London. There are 6 clinical neuropathologists in the North-West based at Liverpool, Preston and Manchester, serving a total population 7.1 million.


 

  

Schering-Plough (manufacturers of Temozolomide) and Archimedes (UK licensees of Gliadel Implant Wafers) kindly provide some financial support for various educational BTNW meetings including the “Annual Retreat”.
